How reliable are the various methods of assessment of the pile ultimate geotechnical strength? What is the basis of the various geotechnical reduction factors used in Australian Standards 5100 and 2159? These were a few of the questions raised and addressed by FSG’s technical director Dr Julian Seidel at a recent presentation at Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads. About 2 dozen Structural, Civil and Geotechnical Engineers attended. Julian was a contributor to AS 2159 and has been involved with pile testing for over 30 years. He shared his experiences and evidence for the basis of the reliability values at this presentation as well as discussing pile drivability issues. FSG is committed to sharing their knowledge and experience with the engineering community with a view to improving the understanding of pile construction, testing and verification.
